ACL Rehabilitation - Test Your Knowledge!
Optimise your patient management with the help of leading expert David Fevre
Muscle atrophy is a common problem post ACLR surgery. How much muscle strength can be lost in the first 8 days post surgical repair?
1-6% per day for the first 8 days of immobilisation (Muller, 1970).
The injured athlete often presumes that the time period between the date of injury to the date of surgery is a convalescence period. However this is a very key time during the rehabilitation period and can have a big influence on the long term outcome of the individual’s recovery.
Trained individuals often suffer from greater absolute strength losses during this immobilisation phase.
